Wetherby Services, A1(M) Junction 46

Wetherby is the first service area north of the M1 merge and one of the better-rated on the A1(M). Where is it, and what makes it different?

Where it is

The services are at Junction 46 of the A1(M), the junction with the B1224, signed for Wetherby and York. The site is reached from a roundabout, so it serves both sides of the motorway. It lies in the parish of Kirk Deighton in North Yorkshire, although Wetherby itself is in West Yorkshire.

Wetherby is operated by Moto. The petrol station opened on 05/07/2008 and the main services on 23/08/2008.

Wetherby was described as the UK’s first carbon-neutral service station, built with the latest green technologies of the time. In a 2018 survey it scored 99% satisfaction, third nationally and the top Moto site overall.

North of Junction 46 the count is 81,909, with lorries at 20.1%. Wetherby Racecourse is near the road, so it can be busier on race days.
