Peterborough Services, A1(M) Junction 17

Peterborough services sits at the northern end of the A1(M)’s Cambridgeshire section, at one of the road’s busier junctions. What should you know before pulling in?

Where it is

The services are at Junction 17 of the A1(M). The junction connects with the A1139 for Peterborough, the A47 for Wisbech and the A605 for Oundle and Northampton, and it is signed for the services in both directions. Because the site is off the junction, it serves traffic heading north and south.

Who runs it

Peterborough services is operated by Extra, which also runs Baldock services at the end of the Hertfordshire section.

What is there

We have not yet confirmed the facilities at Peterborough from Extra or another reliable source, so we do not list them here rather than guess.

Traffic around Junction 17

This is where the A1(M)’s Peterborough section peaks and then empties. The Department for Transport counted 84,283 vehicles a day between Junctions 16 and 17 in 2025, the busiest count on the section. North of Junction 17, on the short link to the A1 at Orton Southgate, the figure is 34,347, because most traffic leaves for Peterborough and the A47. Lorries make up 19.4% of what remains.

Junction 17 is the starting point of Peterborough United’s own directions to its London Road ground, so the junction can be busier on match days.
