Ferrybridge Services, A1(M) Junction 40

Ferrybridge serves two of the busiest motorways in the north, the A1(M) and the M62. How do you reach it, and what is there?

Where it is

The services are near Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire, at Junction 40 of the A1(M) and Junction 33 of the M62, with access from both motorways. On the A1(M) the services are signed from Junction 40 northbound, with Hull (M62) and Pontefract, and from Junction 41 southbound, with the M62 for Hull and Manchester. Southbound, Junction 40 is where the motorway ends and the A1 continues.

Who runs it

Ferrybridge is operated by Moto. It opened in 1985 under the Granada brand, which was granted a 50-year lease from the Secretary of State for Transport that year, and became Moto in 2001.

History

Before the services, a bone manure works operated from the site. In 2000 the consumer magazine Which? named Ferrybridge the worst services in Britain; it was rebranded the following year. In 2006 the road beside it was upgraded from the A1 to the A1(M), and the old A1 became the A162.

Traffic around Junction 40
